Church of Our Lady of Nazareth

Completed in 1837 and majestically erected on a cliff, the Nossa Senhora de Nazareth Church, or Igreja da Matriz, is therefore one of the postcards of the city.

Likewise, it is said that, after a violent storm in 1630, fishermen from Saquarema would have found the image of Our Lady of Nazareth, protector of navigators, in a fish net. Thus, taken in the house of one of them, the statue would have mysteriously reappeared on the rock.

In short, the outcome of this story occurred with the construction on the site of a church in honor of the saint, in stone and lime.

In this way, considered one of the first temples built in devotion to Santa Nazareth, the Church has a single nave and a side corridor next to the bell tower. In the background is the Municipal Cemetery, which houses in a small chapel the image of the virgin found by the fishermen.

Saquarema House of Culture

Built in the 19th century, it was the first town hall, and city hall from 1841 until 1978.

It has a permanent exhibition of the collection of the writer and art critic, Walmir Ayala, who lived in Saquarema.

The José Bandeira Municipal Library works in the space, with a collection of more than 20 thousand titles. Its name is a tribute to the poet José Bandeira, who composed the Hymn of Saquarema.

However, the Casa de Cultura also has the Teatro Mário Lago, with a capacity for 162 people and a varied cultural program, but also in the cultural complex there are courses in painting and handicrafts.

Saquarema Cultural Fair

The Saquarema Cultural Fair brings together artists, artisans, fishermen and farmers who promote local culture, regional products and increase agribusiness in the municipality.

As well as, about 40 stalls are set up with handicrafts, typical foods and agricultural products. But there are also exhibitions of literature, visual arts and tourism. As well as dance, theater, fashion and poetry contests, as well as awards.

Handicraft fair

The Craft Fair has existed for over 30 years and has about 90 artisans and exhibitors. At first, started as an informal event, with the placement of handicrafts on the floor, today it has the support of the city government and has 45 tents in all.

As well as, currently, artisans from all over the city participate, showing the great variety of local art: there is silver jewelry, jewelry, leather work, biscuit, ceramics, cord with sisal and banana leaves, among others.

However, to participate, the artisan must go through the sieve of a commission formed by members of the Association of Artisans and Exhibitors of Saquarema, responsible for organizing the Fair. After all, the test is a demonstration of the performance of his work, which can take place during the fair itself or with the commission's visit to the artisan's workshop.

Morro da Cruz Lookout

The Mirro do Morro da Cruz has a spectacular view, with a beautiful sunset, because from there you can see three of the great lagoons that make up the Saquarema lagoon. As well, it is also possible to admire the mountains of the region.

At the Mirante there is a metallic cross with 15 meters of height, in memory of the first mass celebrated in Brazil.

The viewpoint is in Morro do Cruzeiro, 2 km from the city center.

Volleyball Center

Created by the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation, it is one of the largest and most modern Volleyball Centers in the world. As well, it has an area of 108 thousand m², accommodation for up to 115 people, beach volleyball courts, multipurpose courts, soccer field, tennis courts, a swimming pool complex, a weight and physiotherapy room, an auditorium and meeting rooms, restaurant, tv room, games room, rowing boats with garage, parking and helipad. Likewise, in the space there is a Trophy Room, with about 80 national and international trophies that tell the history of Brazilian volleyball.

Tingui Waterfall

Above all, Saquarema has a differential compared to other cities in the Lakes Region. Because, in addition to beaches, you will also find the Tingui Waterfall. As well as, it is formed by a complex of small waterfalls, which count on their surroundings with bars, restaurants and overnight accommodations. It is in the district of Sampaio Correia
